Ballpark Brews: Safeco Field

Boardwalk and I recently took a trip out to the Pacific Northwest with a stop in Seattle.  Being a baseball fan, I convinced her to come to a Mariners game with me.  So we bought tickets from StubHub, for cheap and we looked forward to trying the different food (garlic fries = heaven) and to see what kind of beers they would have.  So how was the beer selection?

In one word: AMAZING!!  This was by far the best beer selection I have seen at a ballpark (this was my 10th different stadium).  The microbrews were everywhere.  Boardwalk started with a Pyramid Hefe with the garlic fries we devoured in about 30 seconds.  I started with a Big Sky Brewing Co. Moose Drool from a stand that had four additional microbrews – none of which I had heard of.

Next, we went on a search for food, and they had your typical fare of dogs, bratwurst, burgers, fries, etc.  They also had a large selection of Asian food (mostly noodles) and sushi.  Upon looking for the sushi, I noticed in the cooler filled with different micro brews one of which was New Belgium Fat Tire, I couldn’t pass it up so I ordered one of those and had a bratwurst with it – delicious.

My final beer was a Deschutes Pale Ale, another solid brew. Upon walking around we noticed a few other interesting brews and some typical beers.  Alaskan had their summer ale on tap, Sierra Nevada and Pyramid were prevalent throughout the park.  There was an awesome tap handle for Pyramid’s Summer Blonde Ale. Of course there were also the macros, but there was always some sort of craft beer right next to it so you always had a choice.  The only black holes for the beer community was the “international stations” that had your typical Stella, Guinness, etc. and the station selling Carona and Pacifico, but they had a saving grace of being sold in bombers.

If you’re a beer lover and in Seattle definitely hit up Safeco Field  for some awesome ballpark brews.
