Beer and Football. That’s what we DO!

It’s that magical time of year again.  The time when it’s socially acceptable to get drunk on a Sunday.  FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

Sundays spend all spring and summer being crappy.  It’s the day before going back to work, where you spend the majority of it stressing out about what’ll happen on Monday.  “Is my boss going to be in a good mood?”  “Am I going to get stuck with another long project?”  “Is Judy in Accounting going to call about my numbers being off?”  “I hope the cleaning lady didn’t spit on my desk again.”

Most likely you went to church.  Most likely because you had to, not because you wanted to (SINNER!).  The highlight of Sunday was probably brunch, if you were lucky enough to go to brunch.

Jesus is totally cool with you watching football.

But now, Sunday is about FOOTBALL!  There can be almost 10 games going on simultaneously.  Are you prepared for that?

A lot of sports bars have enough TVs to make your eyes bleed.

And of course, with all those games on at one time, you need to be drinking a beer, or perhaps a bunch of beers.

So, prepare yourself for a glorious Sunday.  Be sure to have plenty of food readily available, and plenty of good beer.  None of those silly macro brews.

I’d go with something light, since you’ll probably be drinking around 10 of them over 9 hours of football.  Here are some of my recommendations:

Victory Prima Pils

Very easy to drink a bunch of them.

Weihenstephan Hefe Weissebier

It’s delicious.

Stay local!  Flying Dog Doggie Style

A solid tasty beer.

There are a lot of good ones out there (Hopslam!), but I’m going with Heavy Seas Loose Cannon.

I hear it’s on cask at RFD too!

Ommegang Hennepin

Spicy and complex.

For you drinkers planning on only having a couple, why not enjoy an Oktoberfest, or a pumpkin ale.  Tis the season!

And if bottles are too classy for you (as is the case with many of the contributors on this site), why not go with something from Oskar Blues, 21st Amendment, or Butternuts?

Enjoy your first Sunday of the new season!

While I agree with most of this post, I do feel it is necessary to point out that there are few micro-brews out there that can compete with macros on price and ‘pound-ability’ when one is trying to spice up that Jags-Raiders game with a drinking game…
