Brew Review-Brasserie Des Geants Saison Voisin

I know what you’re thinking.

Brasserie Des Géants?  Saison Voisin?  Sounds fancy!

Well, you’re kinda right.

This saison hails from Ath, Belgium in the Irchonwelz region.

Yup.  Fancy.

But, only fancy because it’s from Belgium…

The Brasserie Des Géants Saison Voisin was actually quite disappointing.

I read “Saison” on the label and had high hopes for a beer that would be complex; spicy, citrusy, floral, everything.  But this one was a real let down.

It pours a dark caramel color that’s slightly cloudy (which you can barely tell from that poor picture up there).  It has a malty sweet aroma with a little spiciness.  Kind of a nutmeg scent.  The flavor had a bit to be desired.  It seemed to have a lot of the flavors that I would enjoy in a saison, but they were all very muted and seemed to cancel each other out.  There was a little citrus and some mild spice, but it was actually quite bitter.  It finished dry and had very high carbonation.

All together, it was sad.  My hopes dashed.  My dreams crushed.

It will probably be kinda difficult to find this beer, so don’t waste your time searching.
