3xB: Ommegang Cup O Kyndnes

This Week’s Big Bottle:  Ommegang Cup O Kyndnes

This week I tried Ommegang’s Cup of Kyndnes, a Belgian Scotch Ale.

It pours a hazy and dark red or cherry like color.  Nice Lacing and good head.  It has a strong toasty caramel malt flavor.  Some earth and smoke notes as well.  It has a medium body, which is fitting as it is a Belgian interpretation of usually heavier Scotch ales.  I didn’t pick up an obvious hoppiness, but this brew is spiced up with cloves and heather.  As expected the Belgian part of the brew contributed citrus fruit flavors (banana, etc.).  I experienced a crisp almost prickly finish, but it was not unpleasant.   I have nothing negative to say about this ale.  I enjoyed drinking every ounce as it is a good hybrid ale.   If you’re into that sorta thing, pick one up.
