Brew Review-Smuttynose Ry(e)an
Again, the joys of having friends in other regions of the country have smiled upon me.
A recent shipment contained the Smuttynose Ry(e)an Ale. It’s listed as a red rye ale that’s been bourbon barrel aged.
Upon opening the bottle, you know that it’s been sitting around in bourbon barrels. The aroma comes flying out at you immediately.
It’s a nice brown color with a slight orange tint. That malty bourbon aroma fills the light tan head. It’s sweet and malty, with a creamy mouthfeel. There are hints of vanilla and the bourbon finish shows up strong with a bit of an alcohol burn.
Luckily my shipment came with two of these hard to find bottles. So, off to the “cellar” you go!
