3xB: Legend Tripel

This week’s Big Bottle: Legend Tripel

I picked up this big bottle to kill some time with X while he was brewing a double ale.  Legend Brewing Company is based out of Richmond, VA.  They are one of the less common craft breweries producing both lagers and ales.  All Legend beers are unpasteurized and made from only two-row and specialty barley malt, hops, water and yeast.   The Tripel  uses a Belgian abbey style yeast strain which gives the brew flavors including banana, clove, apple, and pear.    The ale pours a golden hazy amber, which is much lighter than my photo.  Medium mouthfeel with a champagne-like carbonation. Also, the beer has a sweet malt backing that compliments the other flavors.  Nice hop finish after the sweet flavors run their course across the palate.   8.7% ABV, which is a little on the weak side for this style.  2.5/3 hops.  Drink it if you like Belgian Ales.

Cheers,
