Beer Madness! 34 (9)Big A IPA v. (1)Troegenator

(9) Smuttynose Big A IPA
(1) Troegs Troegenator

You hear that sound?  It sounds like a freight train doesn’t it?  It’s the Troegenator Train, baby, and it’s barreling down the tracks!  You better get out of the way Big A.

Beer Madness! 2 (8)Red Hook ESB v. (9)Smuttynose Big A IPA

(8) Red Hook ESB
(9) Smuttynose Big A IPA

Red Hook brings a lot of fans to this match up.  While they have a strong squad year-in and year-out, their puny 5.8% ABV could easily be overwhelmed by the gaudy 9.7%ABV Smuttynose brings to this contest.  The Big A IPA is hard to stop and it’s known for finishing strong, which is a huge plus come tournament time.  I think they run away with this one here.

Brew Review-Smuttynose Ry(e)an

Again, the joys of having friends in other regions of the country have smiled upon me.

A recent shipment contained the Smuttynose Ry(e)an Ale.  It’s listed as a red rye ale that’s been bourbon barrel aged.

Upon opening the bottle, you know that it’s been sitting around in bourbon barrels.  The aroma comes flying out at you immediately.

It’s a nice brown color with a slight orange tint.  That malty bourbon aroma fills the light tan head.  It’s sweet and malty, with a creamy mouthfeel.  There are hints of vanilla and the bourbon finish shows up strong with a bit of an alcohol burn.

Luckily my shipment came with two of these hard to find bottles.  So, off to the “cellar” you go!
